Jan Stapor

Jan Stapor (b. 1991, Warsaw, Poland) is a painter. Before turning to painting he directed his debut documentary, The Tragic Ones, and worked for years as a cultural journalist. He was developing his next film projects when a friend asked him how long it would be before the first viewer actually saw the finished work. Knowing that it would take at least three years, he felt this question strike him like a bolt from the blue. He was already painting at the time, and he chose the immediacy of the canvas over the slow arc of film production, committing to it fully. He holds a degree in Anthropology of Culture from the University of Warsaw and is self-taught as a painter by choice.

In early 2027 he will take part in a residency at GlogauAIR, Berlin.
