Susan Victoria Phillips is a Victoria, British Columbia–based visual artist whose creative journey began in London, England. Inspired early on by her mother’s work designing gowns for Queen Elizabeth’s court, she developed a lifelong appreciation for craftsmanship and visual refinement. Her professional background spans interior design, writing and theatrical set production, including stage design for the Dalai Lama’s visits to Ottawa. These diverse creative disciplines inform her understanding of scale, atmosphere, and emotional presence.
Since 2013, she has focused on painting while continuing her involvement in theatre as a costume designer. Her practice is centered on large-scale, boldly expressive works defined by vibrant colour and dynamic movement. These commanding compositions are created to anchor a space, bringing depth, energy, and resonance to contemporary interiors. Her West Coast seascapes offers a quieter reflection of the luminous coastal environment she calls home.
Her paintings are held in private collections across Canada and internationally.
