My current work explores the incomprehensible knottiness of human lives, deaths, and relationship.
I consider my oil paintings suggestive abstractions. The impetus is emotional, thoughtful, cryptic; the framework is vaguely map-like. There is a place-ness to my work.
While idiosyncratic gestures and sensibility are recognizable from one painting to another, my goal is to develop each painting as a discrete work rather than one in a series of like explorations. I shepherd paintings through many layered drafts until a specific work strikes me as complete within itself. The artifact of this process is a very individual painting with a richness that can hold interest over many viewings through a long period of time.
I'm a self-taught artist, practicing professionally since 2002.
