The Majority of my work coverts a personal journey of women. Exploiting both the physical and emotional wounds that many women suffer hormonally and due to the ageing process. Researching some reasons for hormonal imbalance, such as pregnancy and the climacteric, alongside the inevitable changes bought about through the elapse of time, adopt many symptoms, be that individual ones.
Predominantly i use a raw canvas, which in itself isn't forgiving to any unwanted mark making, as this has a texture and a non reflective quality. the cotton or linen suggests tone for the painting and the strong pigment of oil paint embodies the figure or face itself.
Each and every painting is individual from the research and the model to the final execution, as it manifests during the process.
Having been involved with and studied theatrical design initially, this gave me a confidence to work in large scale when desired and the increasing experimentation of mark making and mixing media's. In 2009 I graduated with a BA Hons fine art degree. I like to think that my past experiences and achievments finally have melded to produce a silent connection from women to women and informed people of the complexity of the female inside and out.
