On the Artist Hi, my name is Peter Heuvelmans, a Dutch visual sculpturer in Oil/Acrylic Painting, Ink Drawing and Digital Media. I guess I’m more of a drawing artist than a painter but I don’t give much weight to that differentiation. Does it matter? In model drawing I prefer the short 3 to 5 minutes poses. Normally I use two thirds of the time just to observe and one third to capture and create in -ideally- just one or two drawing movements. Fluid are the model’s moves, and the drawing process should match that. That’s why I use a simple bamboo pen and black ink to create something as fluid and irreversible as the model pose: after minutes its gone and fades away to never return in the exact same setting and light. But the ink drawing captures that moment and carves it in stone. In landscape painting I’m a great fan or the Chinese/Japanese approach to landscape painting: no central subject or perspective, but “an open invitation to the viewer to jump in and experience nature on a subjective way”. In other crazy stuff I like to create Man Ray experiments, setting/framing observations, creating the “subjective more”.
