Andi Kovel

Collectable sculptural glass work that is explorative and redefines glass as a moldable evolving material. My style combines the raw edge of experimental form with a refined aesthetic. A background in accessory design, sculpture and art theory expands the traditional expression of blown glass here I invent new processes the natural tendencies of glass through color, texture, form, and transparency. Starting a career at Urban Glass in Brooklyn, Kovel worked with influential artists like Jeff Koons and Robert Rauschenberg, experiences that nurtured an innovative approach.

In 1999, along with Justin Parker, Kovel co-founded ESQUE, leading a movement in contemporary glass that celebrates material exploration and challenges tradition. ESQUE fuses elevated modernism with traditional glass production to create decor, lighting, and functional glasswork.

Kovel graduated from The University of Colorado with a BFA in sculpture and continued with a degree in art education and theory from The School of Visual Arts and New York University. Originally from New York, Andi Kovel continues her sculptural practice and design work in Portland, Oregon.
