Moritz Borkowski works with simple objects and structural elements from everyday working environments, transforming them into autonomous visual forms. Tables, surfaces, and architectural fragments become central motifs—objects that are normally functional and overlooked, yet in his paintings acquire a quiet physical presence. Through reduction, enlargement, and isolation, these elements shift from utility to contemplation.

At the core of his practice lies an attention to material and surface rather than representation. His paintings develop gradually through layering, reworking, and partial removal of paint. Surfaces appear worn, revised, and marked by time, allowing the image to retain visible traces of its own making. The work unfolds as a process in which stability and erosion exist simultaneously, and the final form remains open to the memory of previous states.

Borkowski’s paintings operate at the threshold between object and structure. A table may read as an architectural support, a plane as a spatial boundary, a fragment as a foundation.
