Maite Sanchez

My work emerges from an intimate connection with my surroundings: nature, animals, and fragments of my own lived experience. Each painting becomes an autobiographical gesture, transforming personal memories into symbolic and emotionally charged images.

I am deeply interested in exploring vulnerability, quiet sadness, and the tension between fragility and inner strength. Animals —often represented at life size— become powerful presences within my compositions. They are not merely subjects, but metaphors for memory, absence, attachment, and the invisible weight that accompanies certain life decisions.

I understand painting as a bridge between the intimate and the universal. What begins as something personal and private seeks to resonate beyond my own story, inviting the viewer to recognize echoes of their own experiences within the brushstrokes.

I was born and raised in Barcelona, where I currently live and work. My background in mural painting at Escola Llotja and photography at IEFC informs my hybrid methodology. I combine photography, drawing, and oil painting, working through traditional sketches and incorporating digital collage processes to construct images that balance realism with softness and depth.
