Susan Hippe

I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1966 and have lived in a variety of countries - France, Canada, Germany, Denmark, USA and London which has become my base.
While working as a ballet dancer an injury gave me the opportunity to pursue a career in art.

The continuous exploration of drawing is extremely important to me, nothing can replace this wonderful feeling of a pastel or charcoal moving on a surface and leaving the traces of that movement. This moment of making movement visible takes my utmost concentration and energy, it is one of the most intense states of body - mind - soul that I know. I am also very passionate about colours, patterns, ornaments and materials, hence I often like to combine them with my drawings.

I studied fine art and visual communication for three years at Universities in France and finished my BA (Hons)in London, at Roehampton University in 1999.
