Wenli Liu

I am a contemporary figurative painter based in Georgia, working primarily in oil. My paintings explore the quiet psychological space of human experience, often through the female figure.
The figures I paint are not expressions of outward emotion, but moments of inward reflection—where thoughts, tension, and stillness coexist. Their faces are often calm, yet ambiguous, holding a sense of distance that invites interpretation rather than explanation.
I am interested in the space between what is felt and what is shown. Color and form become a language for these subtle emotional states—where beauty, uncertainty, and vulnerability overlap.
Through my work, I try to capture something that is not immediately visible, but deeply present.

Bio:
Born in Beijing, China, Wenli Liu came to the United States in 1998 to pursue art education at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She initially worked as a graphic designer before transitioning into a full-time studio practice.
Her work focuses on figurative painting that explores emotional states, perception, and the psychological depth of human experience. She currently lives and works in the United States.
