Nicci Swartz is a South African street and
mural artist, renowned for her vibrant, largescale
portraits that capture the essence of
South African culture and spirit. Her
signature style—bold, colourful, and full of
life—transforms ordinary public spaces into
powerful visual narratives that speak to the
collective identity of her country. Swartz’s work aims to elevate her subjects, often placing them
at the focus of her murals, as a statement of their significance and worth.
Growing up in the Eastern Cape surrounded by the rich cultural diversity of South Africa, Swartz
developed a passion for art that celebrates her roots and the people who make up the fabric of
her community. For Swartz, graffiti and street art are democratic forms of expression—there are
no language barriers, and no limitations on who can view or experience her work. This ethos
drives her belief that art should be available for everyone, creating a sense of connection and
shared understanding.
While she is deeply committed to street art, Swartz has also gained recognition for her largescale
canvases, which have been exhibited internationally and are part of private collections
around the world. Her work on canvas carries the same energy and spirit as her murals, using
bold colours and dynamic compositions to place her subjects in a position of prominence.
Whether on a canvas or a public wall, her portraits celebrate the strength, resilience, and beauty
of ordinary people, giving them a place of importance in the visual landscape.
Swartz continues to create impactful art both locally and internationally, her murals a constant
reminder of the power of art to unite, inspire, and communicate across cultures and borders.
With each piece, she reaffirms her commitment to making art for the people—an inclusive and
expressive medium that transcends private collections and speaks directly to the heart of the
community.
Swartz's mural work can be seen at The Boardwalk Mall (PE), Mercedes Benz (EL), Gold Reef
City (JHB) Vincent Park (EL) and many more. Her works have been collected by Standard
Chartered Bank portfolio which now hangs in their branch in Sri-Lanka, Human rights lawyer in
California
