My early stages in art came about because of a search for expressing emptiness, which led me to experimenting with metal mesh until this became a means of expression, until transforming and considering it sculptural material. I rely on the space-light relationship and on the projected shadows that b...

Almudena Torró transforms metal mesh into sculptures activated by light, shadow and the viewer's movement. Light passes through the material, while the shadows it projects become changing compositional elements in the surrounding space.
Her practice grew out of an earlier investigation into the cycles of life and the experience of loss, which converged in É - Panta rei as an inner transformation: a vital sense of continuous change, in which everything flows and nothing stops.
In Transit follows as a period of renewal, working the metal mesh alone and unframed, and carrying this evolution toward a more direct relationship with the surrounding volume.
Re-encounter extends it through three lines: Reflection, where mirror surfaces draw the viewer and their surroundings into the work; Ethereal, where curved three-dimensional forms can be read from multiple angles; and Renaissance, where the metal mesh is burned, making that change visible on the surface.
Born in Madrid and based in Alicante, Spain. Torró's work has been selected for several Saatchi Art curated collections, including Frieze Seoul 2025 and Best of 2024: Sculpture, the latter selected by Rebecca Wilson, Saatchi Art's Chief Curator, with pieces from É - Panta rei among the works chosen. She was shortlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize 2024, with her work exhibited at York Art Gallery, and has shown at The Other Art Fair (Saatchi Gallery, London), Art Nordic (Copenhagen), and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (Alicante, Spain).
