(20) I am a Polish-American outsider artist from Atlanta, Georgia creating art under the name "Tofu" since I was fifteen years old. Diagnosed with Bipolar II Disorder at eighteen, my work is both an expression of and a therapeutic outlet for hyper-mania. While living in Tokyo, I was heavily influenced by farcical, intensely colorful, and unapologetically garish Japanese graphic design. My work draws inspiration from childhood cartoon characters, pop-surrealism, the stark graphics of punk zines, and the kaleidoscopic effect of layers of decaying advertising, graffiti and weathered street art common to the urban landscape.
