Karin Voogd

I'm a traveller and a painter. I love to look, I love to be inspired by what I see. By the whimsical treasures from nature and perception. Sometimes naturalistic representation makes room for abstraction, rythm and the knowledge of colour. I used my Western artistic tools to explore other cultures. I took my oilpaints and knowledge of drawing from nature to the coast of Kenya. My studio was outside, or even inside other peoples homes. I returned from Kenya wondering about the tools that had seemed universal until I experienced other art and other conditions to make art. It made me explore those tools, for instance the linen ground I used to paint on. I learned to weave my own linen.
