On the pond where light descends, wishes dance along the ripples. Closing my eyes, I surrender myself to the swirl, quietly emptying my heart. The whirlpool of light and wishes unfolds as a ritual landscape, where silent, hidden emotions spread into light, forming the shape of a mandala. Delicate wa...

Artist Statement My work envisions landscapes of sanctuary. The Where Wishes Rest series embodies emotions of recollection, hope, and purification. I perceive earnest wishes (yeomwon) as latent energies—an elemental force that draws moments of healing closer. Through the language of painting, I explore this energy and depict the journey of a heart that rises again. I coined the term Karmadise, combining Karma (the law of cause and effect) and Paradise (an ideal or peaceful state). Karmadise represents a path toward a harmonious inner state through positive karma and intentional healing. It is a spiritual refuge, guided by compassion (karuna), sympathetic joy (mudita), and equanimity (upekkha), reflecting the Buddhist pursuit of liberation from suffering. This process invites inner reflection, the restoration of emotional energy, and the deepening of the meaning behind one’s wishes. Within my work, the yearning heart rests in a sanctuary of longing, drifts through waves of purification, and emerges toward light. The repetitive rhythms of flowing lines represent the subtle vibrations of hope arising from inner chaos. I call this space a Ritual Sanctuary—a sacred site that transcends expression and offers emotional liberation and vitality. Art becomes a visual alchemy, transforming wishes into shimmering symbolic landscapes. My motifs often reference healing symbols: tangled threads act as psychic membranes sewn from childhood wounds, especially memories of my late father. These threads, like a silkworm’s cocoon, preserve memory and spiritual practice. Drawing from Didier Anzieu’s psychic envelope, I explore inner protection as a visual skin. Canvas functions as both filter and relic—purifying negative energy through layered brushwork and luminescent pigments. With oil paint, neon pigments, and light-reactive materials, my work glows in darkness, revealing ideal dreamscapes such as Wishing Shelters, Guardian Trees, and Lucid Dreams. To me, art is both light in isolation and life itself—a purified space for the anxious mind. I hope the viewer finds a breath of relief in the healing waves that drift through the mysterious depths of the psyche.
