Monique Van Stokkum

Monique van Stokkum (1952) is a Dutch artist. Currently she makes drawings.

THE DELICATE LINE
Since 2015 I make drawings again. In the beginning of my artist careeer I started with drawing (ca. 1975), then a period of painting followed . And now I'm back to my old love.
The directness, grim, tenderness and strength of the drawing.

THEME
Of course I am touched by what is happening in the world. In my work I do not react literally on the world news. Yet it is about universal themes in which people can recognize themselves. The viewer looks for elements of life. My work gets meaning through their associations and fantasies.
Landscapes, animals and people are my sources of inspiration. Not strange for someone who is born and raised in the woods.

I can now say that the death of my son (2005) brought about major changes in my work. Now, after more than 10 years, I feel the space again which was not there for a long time.
Since 2013 I make my Objects to Remember. Large and small painted objects in wich memories may be stored. Works of art with an extra personal significance.

8-11-2018 till 5-2-2019 Solo exhibition in Art space Rondeel, St. Maartenskliniek, Nijmegen, Netherlands.

21 april - 9 june 2018 solo-exposition in Galerie Van Slagmaat, Woerden NL. The galery shows 23 drawings and paintings.

May-september 2017: Summer exhibition at the river side. Every weekend terras and music at the gallery "De Veldschuur", Overasselt, Netherlands.

2017 5th till 27th of August Galerie Notre Dame Des Arts, Ubbergen near Nijmegen, Netherlands. Exposition of my recent drawings, paintings and objects together with Geert Lemmers (also at Saatchi). He makes photo artworks.
2017 Summerexhibition (solo) in Galery Gaia and Ouranos, Overasselt/Holland. From 1 may until 25 september.
