A cynical and tired Mestizo-Canadian (Brunka and Czech) artist living in Ottawa, Ontario, Gabriel Rojas Hruška explores visual commemoration and the intricacies of remembrance. His practice presently encompasses both traditional and digital work. He holds a BFA and BDes from OCAD University and an MA in Public Ethics from Saint Paul University. These studies in technique and philosophy are central to his approach, alongside an early introduction to painting through family friend Emil Purgina and later time spent with artists like Keita Morimoto and Nicole Ji Soo Kim.
Aside from exhibiting traditional paintings, he has produced installations and performance works, occasionally contributes to small print publications, and enjoys working with musicians to produce artwork representing their own projects. Each of the visual pieces here looks to capture a specific moment-in-time, a sense of being held within the covenant of external viewership from a place beyond the moment in which it was captured.
