Aruna Samivelu

Aruna Samivelu, born in Coimbatore, India, now living in Berlin, Germany took to painting in 2010.

Her paintings are influenced deeply by the rich and vibrant colours of India, her country of birth. Her paintings derive their strength of composition from the daily rituals and traditions she experienced as a child. While she is proud of her origins and the achievements of this modern, yet mysterious Juggernaut, that rightfully enjoys is position in today's world as a future economic power, she is deeply pained at the pace of progress happening without concern for man or nature. The pain and hope have found expression in her paintings, which portray not only life in urban India but also life in German cities. Her paintings are a constant proactive and difficult attempt at integrating new awareness with the existing. Through her artwork she seeks to mediate and find consensus, balance, and perfection. Painting to her is also a means of finding harmony in a cross-cultural context: a mine field of conflicts. She seeks inner strength and control over self in order to effect change. A lot of questions arise, but also many answers. To her her painting is a rendezvous: with herself and with people.
