Mochamad Samba is an Indonesian contemporary artist born in Depok, West Java, on September 4, 1995. He began his artistic practice as a self-taught artist. His exploration of painting developed further after being selected to participate in a young artists workshop organized by Galeri Kertas Studio Hanafi in Depok, which marked an important starting point in his artistic journey.
Samba’s practice is strongly influenced by Abstract Expressionism, which serves as a central approach in his work. His artworks often stem from personal emotional experiences as well as emotions shared by others, translating these intangible feelings into visual forms through expressive colors, layered textures, and spontaneous gestures.
Working primarily with mixed media on canvas and paper, Samba does not limit himself to a single medium. He combines various elements while maintaining the essential qualities of painting. For him, the act of creation functions as a form of meditation—where mind, body, soul, and emotion converge in a contemplative state.
