Was working with some car parts and landscape photos and to my amazement, the work took another turn and I found spikes appearing. I started to think of the cone hats that medieval noblewomen wore. Joe Tantillo’s art has taken him down many paths. He loves to photograph the natural world. He also loved to create abstract paintings and now digital photo-montages. He found, over time, that he needed to satisfy an inner desire of his own image-journey using the new media tools that he learned as a graphic designer. Although he had migrated from painting to photography, he still wanted something more painterly and less photographic to tint these works. From his collection of original digital photographs, he could see that there was more than appears in these images, and through digital means he is able to recombine numerous photos, along with adding drawings, to make unique unconventional images that express what he wanted in his work. By subtle digital manipulation of the color, he was able to evoke an image that he felt was completely his. It is the journey the image makes that matters most to him. The processes can constantly change as his world does, and this has given him great joy.
