My daughter gave me a plant that started producing huge lemons. The colour and the smell were exceptional. I started drawing it but every time I sat down I noticed something had changed since the last drawing session. The roots seemed extreme end I imagined an animal nestling safely inside.

I am Anita Salemink, a writer and visual artist, and I was born in a village named Groessen near Arnhem in The Netherlands. The human form inspires me — the beauty and structure of the body, nature and organic matter — leaves and branches. I make watercolours and drawings mostly on paper. Sometimes I combine paint and graphite. I like working with medical skeletons, dead insects, found objects, pressed flowers, and nude models. I make illustrations for commissions under the name of Tabuki.
