David is interested in the mysteries of the human form and the expressive qualities of the natural world around him. Making art is a way of life and a spiritual practice.
The figurative drawings speak of a profound love for the human, animal and natural world. Often ideas begin as sketchbook studies from life and develop into more finished works. Emotion drives the inspiration for these works and a lifetime of drawing.
The still lives are an architectural exercise in composition, drawing peoples attention around a canvas so that the paintings become laboratories for looking. In a sense, these works hope to harness attention to what is ordinarily overlooked and find a subtle narrative quality in the juxtaposition of disparate objects.
Having grown up in New York City the drama of cityscapes has become an inevitable passion in the work. The expansiveness of geometry, space and humanity are inexhaustible sources of fascination.
