I have been painting for over 25 years, studied art for several years but I feel I am mainly self taught.

I paint surreal portraits and landscapes, occasionally animals and still life.

The portraits are created from a stream-of-consciousness drawing most often, or a re-working of a smaller sketch. I then gesso this and work directly on the paper, currently with oil paint. I also work in any medium, acrylic, watercolour, gouache, etc. I'm inspired by the human condition, relationship with nature, surrealism, juxtaposition, otherworldliness, mystery and beauty.

The landscapes are inspired by photos I take on the Isle of Wight, Lake District and New Forest. I'm really inspired by trees, woodland and striking light and dark or unusual compositions. I mainly work in oil or acrylic, sometimes watercolour, gouache, ink or charcoal.
