I’ve been surrounded by art my entire life. My mother was an artist and an art educator who constantly encouraged my creativity and exposed me to a broad array of art, from the prehistoric to the modern. In high school I explored a vast variety of medium from traditional drawing, painting, and printmaking to photography, animation, and graphic design. I graduated from the Drawing and Painting studio course at Georgia State University with a BFA in 1989. My current work is a result of my struggle with the dichotomy of intentionality and chaos. I’m fascinated by textures, happy accidents, and decay, especially as a result of human endeavor and the effects of time and nature. I work with a combination of predominately random elements restricted by certain constraints. My digital art involves sampling small parts of found images (often from the web or my previous artwork, doodles, and personal photos). I enlarge, manipulate, and combine these samples into pieces that transcend the typical collage aesthetic, creating a more painterly work.
