Niek De Greef

After graduating as a computer scientist at Twente University, I became a self-taught visual artist, musician, and writer. Making images has become a continuous process over the past decades.
My portfolio includes figurative representations of landscapes, street scenes, interiors, and cityscapes—familiar and liminal images. My approach creates photographic scenes in which the seemingly accidental meets the composed, opening images to new interpretations.
Although my work is in keeping with the tradition of documentary photography, I consider my photographs to be autonomous, independent works with their own visual language.
My primary focus is photography, but I also work in other areas, such as drawing, painting, collage, and video.

I have been inspired by artists such as David Lynch, Ed Ruscha, Jeff Wall, David Hockney, William Eggleston, and David Lynch.
