ABOUT
Tom Ledan is a self-taught painter and illustrator whose work combines observation, imagination and a strong interest in the emotional life behind visible forms. His practice grew from drawing and painting, and it now moves fluidly between abstraction, symbolic painting, portraiture, the human figure, nudes, satirical imagery, short comic stories and book illustration.
At the heart of his work is the search for what is often unnoticed: subtle feelings, social tensions, hidden meanings and small details taken from everyday life. A face, a gesture, a memory or an ordinary scene may become the starting point for a painting, but the final image is shaped by personal associations, symbolism, humour and transformation. This gives his work a direct visual presence while leaving space for interpretation.
Watercolour and oil remain his closest mediums. He values watercolour for its lightness, transparency and spontaneity, and oil for its depth, texture and expressive richness. He also works with acrylics, ink, drawing materials and mixed techniques when the subject calls for them. His paintings are made to hold attention, invite closer looking and offer collectors images that feel both accessible and open-ended.
