Born in 1980, Sasan Baheri Rad studied Painting at Azad University before completing his MA and
PhD in Painting at Hacettepe University in Turkey, where he focused on the theme of visual traces of the
unpredictability of the subject.
In his works he often examines what lies behind daily struggles through amorphous - abstract structures, using
painting and lately printmaking, often in series format. “I see them on the bases of physics and I focus on
subject in state of existence and nonexistence in order to open other dimensions where we can read our reality
and ego”.
In the latest works color is a rare sighting. The series of paintings display a variety of composition and moods
around the subject of chaos and irregularities. Black is the dominant part of works such as in the work, Torn
out Universe, 2016. Each square is a symbol of order and is a heavy, durable and stationary form that connects
four points becoming a chessboard to ease of our understanding around a complex order. Black exists in the
presence of its own contrasts restraining chaos and opening up for a new understanding of a fertile “dark”.
The chaotic and destabilizing nature of his home country, Iran, and revolution and war that impacted the country
deeply with severe consequences has fed the artist with an unmatched library of visual references and memories.
‘Searching for a new life’ and ‘total obedience of nature’ have caused the artist to analyze the sociocultural
disorders and desperately attempt to normalize and create a safe space as a creation.
His current work, such as Black Balance and Position 4 deal with the subject of Entropy in art.
