Emily Underhill, also known as Emily Abstract, is a British mixed media artist creating vibrant, expressive paintings that explore colour as a language of emotion, memory, rhythm, and human connection.
Working intuitively with acrylic, spray paint, layered textures, and gestural mark-making, her practice balances chaos and harmony through bold palettes and energetic compositions designed to transform the atmosphere of a space. Influenced by abstract expressionism and street art, each piece evolves organically through movement, instinct, and experimentation.
Emily’s creative practice emerged from a personal journey of reconnection after burnout in the fast-paced world of advertising. Painting became both a form of therapy and a return to the child-like freedom of creating without rules or expectation. That experience continues to shape her work today, where colour functions as both emotional release and shared sensory experience.
Guided by music, intuition, and emotional response, Emily creates work that is intended not only to be seen, but felt. Through vibrant colour, movement, and layered expression, her paintings invite moments of joy, energy, reflection, and connection within everyday spaces.
