Ewa Mazur-Koj

I am a Polish contemporary artist born in 1977. Since 2004, I have been living and working in Germany, where I have developed my artistic practice in painting, drawing and mixed media.
My work moves between figuration and abstraction, exploring the relationship between the body, identity and emotion. I am interested in how personal experience, biological processes and cultural narratives shape the way we perceive ourselves and others.
The female body is a recurring motif in my paintings—not as an object, but as a place where memory, resilience and transformation become visible. Through expressive brushwork, layered surfaces and the interplay between realism and abstraction, I create visual spaces that invite reflection rather than offer fixed answers.
In recent years, my practice has increasingly focused on themes of femininity, the lived experience of the body, and the relationship between biology and culture. My paintings explore experiences that are deeply personal yet widely shared, encouraging conversations about visibility, vulnerability and human dignity.

I was born in Tarnowskie Góry, Poland, in 1977. I studied Advertising Graphics in Katowice before spending a year living in Italy between 1999 and 2000. Since 2004, I have been living and working in Germany. In 2013, I earned an IHK qualification as a Media Designer in Dortmund.

Although my professional background is in graphic design, painting gradually became the centre of my artistic practice. Today, I work primarily as a contemporary painter, exploring the relationship between the body, identity, memory and transformation through figurative and abstract forms.
