Wendy was born in 1955 and grew up in Laguna Beach, California. Much of her childhood time was spent at the beach.

"As a little girl my first string of words was “that’s something else". Which is exactly how my mind works and what I do with my art. I see something and decide it would look better if it was “something else”. I admit it is somewhat of an obsession. For example, when simply walking down the street my imagination is compelled to remove walls, changes trim, repaint buildings, or shift the roofline. And sometimes it becomes apparent that the best option is to simply demolish and begin anew. I make it “something else.” That’s my art form.

"I remember in grade school; the teachers would startle me out of my daydreams, which was really disturbing because I was flying, being a prima ballerina, doing acrobatics at the Olympics or under a circus tent. They told me daydreaming will never get me anywhere and to pay attention. I think they have underestimated the value of daydreaming. Looking back and being the oppositional defiant rebel I had become, I have come to the realization that maybe I wanted to prove them wrong.

"So, if you ask me if I daydream during my job, I will tell you that daydreaming is my job."

Wendy is self taught. She developed methods working in a photography based fine art medium. Wendy spent years traveling, exploring, researching and photographing international historical art, artifacts, symbols, patterns and decorative elements from both “primitive” and “civilized” cultures, as well as nature and modern day objects that reflect those influences.

She selects her source material by paying special attention to the sense of a universal and spiritual feeling.

She reinterprets the items that she photographs, using a digital darkroom and digital painting to create her own modern folk art.

She aspires to work with the same care and attention of the artists and craftspeople that made these historical creations. Both primitive and elegant objects that transcend their utilitarian use to a form that resonates with the spirit in which they were made.

Her practice is a photo based fine art process in which she shoots her own photographs, then in the digital darkroom take a variety of these photographs, up to several dozen images, and composites them into a single coherent composition that allows the viewer to step into the image, loose themselves and create their own narrative.

"My photos are elements of my work. I compose ...

“I first saw the work of Ms. Wendy Hume Ginsberg on Instagram, of all places. I was struck by the originality of Ms. Ginsberg's oeuvre. When looking at her work for the first time, I was puzzled by her use of medium. Is this a watercolor? A pochoir? As I scrolled through her Instagram feed, I concluded that to get the correct answer, I would contact her directly. Wendy quickly responded explaining that she "manipulated photographs on her computer" and then reworked the images over a great period of time resulting in her unique output.

The exactitude of execution in her work is perfectly complemented by an ethereal quality that transports the viewer to another world.

As someone who has been intimately involved in the art world for 35 years, I would be remiss if I did not bring Ms. Ginsberg's art to your attention. I do sincerely hope that you will favorably consider her artwork(s)

Respectfully,
