I am essentially a figurative painter. My eternal theme is the rural society & the way it endures the external forces which threaten it. The physical shape of people moulded in the earth of their ancestors is a constant source of inspiration

The essence of my work emanates from the formative years I spent in the mythical land of my birth on The Black Mountains. Although I moved away in the pursuit of education etc., a part of me never left the area at all. It was its landscape & people that moulded me in effect ~ it was their stories which fired my early imagination & it was their humanity which formed my outlook on life.
The physical shape & pattern of these people excite me creatively & this is the drive which results in my paintings. The themes which appear in my work are drawn from this life ~ the power of the horse , an individual's contemplation in space , the seasons passing.
Although the education I received bore the influence of the Renaissance, it is an older & more mystical tradition which moves me creatively. This is the tradition of the storyteller, the tradition of keeping alive the memory of a people.
