Caroline Murtagh

I am a painter living and working in my own studio in County Cork, Ireland. Although I was born in London, UK, I have lived in Ireland most of my life apart from 2 years which I spent at Montserrat College of Art in Massachusetts.
I worked as a mural painter for several years and spent much of my practice time studying the human figure and painting portraits.
Over the last few years I have veered more towards a more abstract approach, often using landscape to understand light and colour. Mostly I work with oil paint on linen canvas, though sometimes in mixed media on board or paper.
