Bio
Rubato, acciaccatura, sonata, vivacissimo, pensieroso. These are all terms of expression that are a part of my vocabulary from studying classical piano since the age of 7 through college, and present. These terms I translate to my works of art through many interpretations in the media I use for each piece. I reflect my most current state of mind, and value all of my past - which I bring forward into my work. Introspection, observation, reaction, explanation. These are what motivate me to create each piece I make. I keep one foot in the most present, while keeping the other firmly in my past. I move through life with a keen since of interest. Searching those things that awaken me, move me forward, hold me back. The things that make me unique and are unique to me - that's what I tell in the art work I create. The piano is one of the media I use. I also use many others - photography, painting, mixed media sculpture, digital. I put no restraints to the tools I use in creating art. Oils, acrylic, watercolor, paper, cosmetics, discarded items, nostalgia, and so on. The materials help define the outcome of the work while shaping the expression of the idea. Studied piano from age 7 to date. Attended colleges for piano performance. Won music scholarship to Eastern Music Festival at age 15.

Mr. Starr’s work has been exhibited throughout the south in galleries, fine dining establishments, and coffee houses where art and ideas are discussed. The Actors Studio exhibited his artwork for a year along with a large scale mural that hung outside the building. The Charlotte Douglas International airport featured an exhibit of his painting for 6 months, and extended it for another 6 months. His most recent exhibits include a group show at Elder Art Gallery - curated by Bloomberg Magazine Art critic Neal Esplund; a group show in Tieton, Washington that included a hard back fine art book of selected works; photographic work published in international Italian magazine H-Trends. Self-portrait #1 photograph will be featured in an exhibit and auction by GLAAD Art Auction November 18, 2014 at The Level at Metropolitan Pavilion, NYC.
