I have been an artist since I was very young. I have faced difficulties related to mental health, specifically bipolar disorder and anxiety -- my experiences regarding these health issues have informed my work a great deal. Art has functioned in different ways for me during different periods of my life. I used to draw obsessively in order to cope with anxiety; in class at college, for example, I could withstand the anxiety and nervous tension if I could channel the information presented, along with my own inner dialogue, into notes that took on a diagrammatic, oddly detailed character. Much of my work is rooted in the idea of confusion. I draw from a variety of sources: mathematics, engineering, history, symbology, game theory, architecture, science, and many others. I employ diagrams to give my pictures (and occasional sculptural works)the illusion of communication: while I suggest certain themes with the imagery included in a given piece as well as the titles. I try to allow the viewer room for his/her interpretation of the "meaning" of the piece. I ascribe no meaning to either the making of the work, nor the resulting subject. I think of the work only as personal artifacts/records of a series of deliberate actions. Ever since ...
Columbia College, Chicago - winner of Pougialis Fine Art Award, 2000? I forget what year I won that thing. I went on to grad school to get my MSW, but was faced with a large quantity of plastic people, who proved to be, in fact, Player Haters.
I have been in many exhibitions, including solo/dual exhibitions at Columbia College Chicago, Harrison Center for the Arts, Alchemy Gallery, and am currently showing, as I see fit, on the streets and decrepit unused buildings of Indianapolis. If you meet me, ask for art! Occasionally I enjoy donations but the reward is in the doing and giving. Money is poison and the True Enemy of all things good. Did I mention I DO ACCEPT donations? :)
Missed out on the July, 2013 Tarantismo show in Chicago, July 2013. Returned later to co-produce "Blood in My Eye" car-art which transformed the heathen pod into something appropriately earthblood sucked from the dry dead desert d my vehicle -- the car had hit a few non-living objects along the way looked at best "bummy" and at worst "drug person" We turned it into one rip roaring cyclops road eating son of an oil magnate's cream-dream. I like to think so, in any case. The car, since its recreation, has been very well-received by all non-residents of my home. v2.0 is set to manifest c. April/May 2014. Stay tuned.
