Making art acts as a way for me to make sense of the ever-evolving culture in which we live. My work is the result of an ongoing examination of symbols and the meanings we assign them. These works navigate an ambiguous space where the paradigms of pop culture and abstraction meet; a space where a highly recognizable and loaded symbol or act is juxtaposed against something more unclear. The idea of "the spiritual", as impetus for both religious and artistic practice, has become a constant source of inquiry and excitement for me, and has helped to inform my aesthetic decision-making process. Fascinated and equally confused of its embrace by popular culture, I have used acronyms born out of text and internet culture as a scaffold to raise a low-brow technique such as tie dye to a new height.
