Sofia 'Philosofia' Wintzer

My name is Sofia, or artist name PhiloSofia, meaning my art reflects the kind of philosophy I aim to live. A philosophy that includes freedom of expression and truth. I love learning what people uniquely see in my art. I hope my art can connect to people so they feel individually inspired by it but also makes them feel less alone and more connected to what matters. I am a second generation Mexican-American, married to a first generation Mexican. I grew up often going to Mexico and the Midwest while living in Tucson, Arizona. I am influenced by the colorful personalities of my big family and my artistic mother from where I learned to love art, fashion, decor, and cooking. I feel fortunate to have grown up with the perspectives of different cultures and languages in the beautiful southwest where I still live.

I studied a variety from Sociology to Culinary and Fashion Design before deciding on and graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design from The Art Institute of Tucson. I knew I wanted to do something creative with my hands while also helping and connecting to people. My career over the past decade in graphic design has taught me a lot about people as well as technical skills. It also kept me inspired to keep creating art like when I was kid, more fluidly emotional for and from myself. I find the two creative areas of design and fine art compliment and inspire each other and I am looking forward to what these different skill sets can help me to create to continue to connect to more people.
