I come from the Highlands of Scotland but have found my home in Donegal in the North West of Ireland. My work is informed by the landscape of its surroundings, drawing from both the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands and the coastal serenity of Ireland’s west. Through a variety of mediums, I try to create evocative, introspective pieces that explore the physical, emotional, and spiritual connections between humans and the natural world. I work in Watercolour and Oils from my studio on the North West coast of Ireland with my dog Charly to keep me company..
Previously I lectured and taught Drawing & Painting at Dundee University's Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Scotland from 2004 until 2010.
I'm interested in blurring the boundaries between reality, memory and the imagined. My current work hovers between representation and abstraction. I start by using very runny translucent paint that is dribbled, pushed around and left to pool and from this abstract almost instinctive chaos, I introduce form and structure.
