ABOUT
EDUCATION

I’m Skuhlz, a visual artist based in Aurora, Colorado, working across painting, animation, and 3D modeling. My work explores the balance between transformation, hope, and the hypnotic power of visual patterns. Through vivid imagination and experimentation, I craft unique visual stories designed to inspire new perspectives in those who view them.

Skuhlflowerz:
One of my signature series, Skuhlflowerz, reimagines the life cycle of hope through a fusion of nature and surrealism. Skuhlflowerz are symbolic flowers with flaming skulls as blooms, representing how lost dreams transform into new hopes. The evolution of these flowers, from fiery skulls to winged creatures, embodies the human experience of renewal, offering viewers a unique, otherworldly perspective on life and growth.

Ambigram Meow:
Ambigram Meow emerged from my fascination with graffiti and lettering. In this series, I use stylized letters to create a visual palindrome, where the word "meow" can be flipped and still read the same. Through playful and innovative design, the ambigram represents both the flexibility of form and the hidden layers of meaning within even the simplest shapes. This exploration also led to my signature Skuhlz ambigram, which now appears on all my ...

My Education is Experience-Driven:
My journey into art started as a child with a love for comic books, sparking my passion for creating. Although I didn’t pursue formal education in the arts, I’ve cultivated my skills through hands-on experience, starting with basic design principles from a high school jewelry class, to years of self-directed learning later in life.

In my twenties and thirties, I focused my creativity on writing, which deepened my storytelling abilities—something that now influences my visual art. When I returned to visual art in my forties, I embraced a diverse, self-taught path, mastering techniques through books, YouTube tutorials, and endless practice and experimentation.

My education continues today as I constantly seek out new methods and ideas to push my work further. My approach to art is ever-evolving, driven by a deep curiosity and commitment to growth as an artist.
