Stephen Walsh

Born in Manchester in 1972. At an early age it was clear my better strengths came from art - and the attention that came with it. By my mid teens Manchesters art gallerys were my main source of education. I was exposed to and became conscious of many major artists. Freud, Warhol, Lowry, Bacon, Moore and many others imprinted onto me initiating me to the wave of modern British artists of my own generation. My working life began in graphic design which coincided with the apex of Manchesters late 80s music revolution, they mixed well. A fascination in architecture was also a result of my younger days spent in gallery buildings.

Along my personal journey a conviction towards the fundamental importance of art has remained undiminished and been a guide. I have been carried through arts and artists direct ability to embody and unify us - to touch us - and that is what informs the nature of my artworks. I take huge inspiration and encouragement from steadfast examples of contemporary artists that make up the fabric of our cultural landscape i trace myself from.
