Chandrani Sudumenike

I am an artist from Sri Lanka. She is an art teacher by profession. After completing my schooling, I got the opportunity to enter the teaching profession. Even as a child, I had special talent for drawing. Won several state awards in children's art competitions. I was selected to pursue the degree course at the Institute of Aesthetic Studies, but I had to give up the opportunity because I got the job at the same time.
Currently, I am a trained art teacher, a graduate of Aesthetic Education and an artist. He has also received three years of training in painting from Mr. Dayananda, Senior Lecturer in the Sculpture Department of the Institute of Visual Arts Studies, Aesthetic University.
He has held a number of solo art exhibitions including the Colombo Art Gallery, Lionelvent Art Gallery, Kandy French Friendship Society Art Gallery and Kandalama Aitken Hotel. It also owns an art institute registered with the Department of Cultural Affairs named Chandrani Art Academy to educate young children.
I retired from teaching at the age of 50 to facilitate more creativity. Then I turned to mural painting for about 5 years. I was able to create murals in Warakapola Mahena Sri Sudarshanarama and the Buddha Temple in Galigamuwa Meheni Monastery. ...

I was brought up and bred in a rural village called Thulhiriya in the kegalle district. Being educated in the village school. I loved art since ny childhood. As a student in Thulhiriya maha vidyalaya i was fortunate enough to win several awards at national level compititions. As a result of it i became more and more closer to the art subject and i was over joined by drawing arts. Things what i show and things i heard became painting.Arts became a part and parcel in my life. I used to think deeply of what ever i view.

I develop i liking to enjoy the beauty of nature. The environment of my village which is all of hills,wood and paddy fields enrich my artistic sensibility. I think, though my village has now become a semi urban area,the images in the past reappear before me again and again. Born to a traditional farmer family the village life with it is food and drink,the member of streams and brooks and the scent of the paddy fields and threshing floor are deeply imbedded in my mind.

It is correct to say my achievementa and present status of artistic life are mostly due to the opportunities got by playing with friends in the neighbourhood and enjoying the beauty of nature.
