Gegen Tibu

I was born in Zhenglan Banner, Inner Mongolia, and raised in Shangdu—the legendary site of Xanadu from The Travels of Marco Polo. This place, where nomadic grassland culture meets ancient agricultural traditions, shaped my early experiences and continues to echo in my art. Now based in Tokyo, Japan, I work as an independent artist, drawing inspiration from this vibrant international metropolis.

In my work, I seek to create paintings that move both the eye and the soul. From a distance, I want the image to speak clearly and beautifully. Up close, I hope the viewer discovers rich layers of texture, movement, and feeling. My paintings live on a flat surface, but within that surface, I aim to open a space—an emotional world where line, color, and touch lead the viewer inward.

I work primarily with oil on canvas. I often blend powdered pigments with oil to achieve a deeply rooted and lasting luminosity. My artistic language stands at the border between abstraction and figuration, where concept and intuition meet.
