Sandino Martin

Sandino is an actor and a visual artist. He identifies himself as an interdisciplinary creative practitioner who delves into different mediums, from theater to film and video, photography, sculpture, to furniture design. Through these different facets of the visual, experiential, and spatial, he makes art that is an extension of his self expression.

The interaction between art and space is a focal point of his art; he believes that art should enhance space and that space should highlight art. Sandino also calls his work as sculpture on canvas, one that transcends the limits of length, width, and surface. As if the figures he sculpts are meant to reach outside the constraints of two-dimensional space, at times even breaking out from the confines of reality. More often than not, each artwork emerges from the artist's mind like a performance piece that solidifies between his fingers. Thus, in his handiwork he crystallizes his previous and long-running experience in the performing arts. The embossed patterns, rough protrusions, tactile reliefs, and warped spaces are reminiscent of the theatrical illusion conjured on a stage.
