Debbie Soni is a Congolese-American artist who lives and works in the United States. She is a self-taught artist who uses earthy tones on the skin of her figures and expressive colours for her contemporary paintings. She has a degree in Human Development and Family Science and is a certified Human Rights Defender from the University of York, UK. These two fields of study, especially the former, greatly influence her art; making humans her primary subject matter. Her art is also influenced by Congolese culture, storytelling and nature which she grew up in. When painting she draws inspiration from memories, the environment, nature and especially human beings in their daily human experience. She loves showcasing movement, activity, and experiences through her contemporary figurative paintings. She uses colours to express authentic emotions, dynamic personality, mood, and beauty in her expressionist portraits. Her expression of nature often takes the form of flowers, landscapes, birds, mammals, and more. Debbie hopes to inspire and add an impactful participation to the arts and the world through her expressive and beautiful art.
