My work investigates texture, abstraction, geometric forms and plays on the idea of formal relationships between random "˜things' and pattern. I like to work over areas of paint and remove layers to reveal new and interesting situations, I will then try to establish forms from the many layers of paint I applied in the hope of discovering unique areas that can then be formalized into a shape or defined area. Working with the forms I will then try to construct a pictorial space. The positioning and set up of the picture suggests curiosity toward balance and dialog between forms. Things may appear to look like they could be real life objects that been slightly abstracted. The result of my method leaves me with peculiar forms and shapes that sometimes look strangely familiar and could maybe allude to something else. Before I start the canvas or linen I take inspiration from retro design, architecture, images in magazines, patterns on train seats, old worn posters etc etc, however on the journey through the making of the painting I like things to occur naturally and organically. In a way I see my method of making art like archaeology, I am constantly removing paint to try to uncover the interesting and unique areas that can then be used...
