Andre Le Roux

In my art I focus on things that please me, without consideration for good taste, market trends or prevailing thoughts within the art establishment on what good art should be. My art is a selfish exploration into the world of pictures. As much as it delights me when others find my work appealing, public acclaim and financial success are not driving forces in my art production.

I believe that artists should focus on "making things" rather than appropriating, capturing, talking or performing. Our fascination with art is after all like being in love. A performance/installation can uplift, revolutionise, educate and inspire, but it cannot be loved in the same way that a painting or a sculpture can be loved.

Four-year BA (fine art) completed in 1996, majoring in painting.
