Dass views her own experiences whilst understanding that race and gender effect the artistic process, the rethinking of the culture and psychological spaces that are traditionally assigned to women of colour is a part of this visual investigation. Drawing inspiration from Hindu mythology and ritual alongside reconfigured experiences from her childhood into an imaginative

Alka Dass is a South Africa artist from Durban, currently residing in Johannesburg. Dass studied at DUT (Durban University of Technology). She works predominantly within mix media and painting. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions. In 2017 she won "The Young Female Residency Award". Dass's work interests lie in female identity and gender equality.
