Andy Sowerby

Andy Sowerby is an artist working in paint, photography and moving image.

Andy considers painting an ideal medium for expressing the immediate interaction between the mind and hand. Inspired by abstract expressionism, Andy explores the tension between form and meaning. Intuitive and gestural, his paintings are evocative and intriguing.

As a professional and acclaimed filmmaker, Andy experiences parallels between the dynamism of his painting and moving image work, both deploy chance elements and challenge the viewer to see beyond the surface image.
