Angela Vivero

An Ecuadorian artist, navigates the local artistic landscape with a distinctive approach, diverging from the typical dichotomy prevalent among Quitenian artists. Rather than aligning with the bohemian left or the elite, art-educated right, Angela embraces her identity as an ambitious Quitenian with a down-to-earth perspective. Balancing her artistic pursuits with a middle-class sensibility, Angela introduces a unique voice in the narrative of Ecuador's art scene. She modestly considers herself a sui generis expressionist, influenced by her early exposure to art through her mother, Angie, and the captivating oil-painting sessions with her aunt-in-law, the esteemed artist Micaela Almeida.Angela's artistic journey began with humble doodles of flowers, symbolizing intimacy and family bonds. Her style, marked by an indiscriminate use of colors, reflects her innate creativity. Turning to digital mediums for expression, she reserves traditional materials for moments of artistic freedom. Angela, embracing vulnerability, desires a return to the simplicity of white canvases. She discreetly embeds messages in her art, inviting viewers to discover joy in nature scenes, and showcasing Quitenian humor with humility and depth.

Angela, an alumna of the Universidad de los Hemisferios, studied Communication and Graphic Design, and she is among the university's founding students. Despite her design focus, drawing and painting classes played a significant role in her education, fostering a love for art and leading her to reject commercial applications of graphic design unless infused with artistic elements. Inspired by nature, her husband, the Quitenian School of Art, music, and Ecuadorian culture, Angela's favorite artists, including Francisco de Legarda, Bisa Butler, Wes Anderson, Joaquín Sorolla, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, showcase her diverse artistic influences.
