Antoinette Murdoch was born in 1972 in Kemptonpark, South Africa. After graduating top of her class from the Technikon Witwatersrand(now University of Johannesburg), Antoinette Murdoch launched her debut exhibition at the JHB Civic Gallery in 1996. The renowned Nigerian curator Okwui Enwezor was sufficiently moved by this exhibition to write a favourable review of the work for Frieze magazine. Murdoch was awarded an Ampersand Foundation Fellowship in 1999 and her collaborative exhibition Eksie Perfeksie with Doreen Southwood at Spark! in 2002 was particularly applauded. She was one of the selected artists for KKNK (The annual Outshoorn Arts Festival) in 2003. In addition to making art, Murdoch was appointed the CEO of the Art Bank Joburg in 2006 and she also completed her Masters in Fine Art at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2008. Her last solo exhibition: Karaoke Confessions was held at the Gallery Premises at the end of 2007.
