Having always been intrigued by cave paintings, I only just realized that my Interaction series is my response to those primitive stories. My drawings are always in profile and while they don't depict actual battles, etc., they do capture contemporary 'battles' of interaction between modern day man/woman. In this instance, I drew with an X-ACTO knife into hard boards covered in clay and India ink. Those boards mounted together formed one 21"x15" piece of art. I then drew my characters with a Dremel Tool across a 21"x5" piece of Plexiglass. Lastly, I mounted the etched Plexiglass 3" above the Scratchbord® drawings (clay and ink boards) to give the illusion of multiple layers of Interaction. Gazing into the 'box' like 'sculpture' that hangs from the wall give a unique perspective into a modern day story of how we interact in this world.

Most of my career was spent as an Art Director/Designer. After a 2006 cancer diagnosis, I followed my dream of making art full time. I began a search for non-toxic materials and found these hard boards which are covered in a fine white clay with a layer of India ink on top. When I draw with an X-ACTO knife into the layer of ink, fine lines magically appear in the clay. The more pressure I put on my knife, the brighter the white clay appears. If I want to add color,I paint with colored inks after etching into the boards. To add even more texture, I add heavy, black acrylic paint throughout the background at the end of the process. My innate ability to notice even the most minute details in nature translates into meticulous art, compelling the viewer to take a closer look. My art is in private collections, has won prestigious awards, residencies and fellowships, and has been requested for exhibitions throughout the world.
